State of the Author, 4Q2025
It’s been roughly three months since the last State of the Author, so here’s where I’m at:

Longbourn’s ballroom was the site of most of the asteroid’s streaming videos, and Mrs. Bennet had insisted on giving it a more regular shape than most of Longbourne’s interior spaces. The space was an immense rectangle with gleaming white marble floors and columns that reflected the purple and gold lights. The far wall was decorated with a pattern of hexagonal screens set in gold frames, which continued across the ceiling. The main video feeds played out on the screens on the far wall, the more minor ones being relegated to a merely decorative role on the ceiling.

State of the Author, 3Q2025
This really should have been “State of the Author, Mid-Year,” but I was dealing with health issues for most of June (nothing serious, just distracting) and then July was kind of busy at work, so here we are…

In late 2023/early 2024, well before I started writing the space regency, I was trying to brainstorm it on Sudowrite using the free starting credits, and…didn’t get really anywhere with it. This was I think my first experience with AIs other than the image generator Midjourney, and that probably had more to do with my lack of success than anything in particular about Sudowrite. Occasionally, I offer moral support and solutions that worked for me in the comments section of other writing blogs, but I don’t do a lot of it here. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. That being said, I’m seeing certain things come up over and over again in certain places on the web, and I feel like I have to put my oar in. Since nobody asked me, I can’t call them “Frequently Asked Questions,” but I feel comfortable calling this “Frequently Seen Questions…”

Sometimes I use Midjourney to brainstorm what settings in my novels look like. And sometimes that works, and sometimes, as with this alleged depiction of a stable aboard a steampunk airship, it really doesn’t.

State of the Author, Start of 2025
My plans for the New Year are always kind of vague, because “Mann tracht un Gott lacht” (Man plans, and God laughs).

I did a Midj thing based on a joke about Elon Musk, Techlord of Mars, and an internet friend with a twitter account very kindly decided to circulate it. Thank you Foxfier!
State of the Author, End of October 2023
-Wolf’s Trail, Hunter Healer King, Book 1 is in the hands of my proofreaders as I speak.
-When I get it back, I will be editing it instead of writing for NaNoWriMo.
-I am also trying to write a prequel short story for an anthology.
-I have a draft ebook cover, and raw materials for the paperback cover.
-I have vague ideas for Hunter Healer King, Book 2.
