Celebrimbor: Yes, his “I knew your dad” moments with Elrond are a bit much, and yes, it’s true, he should know about alloys
and not need Sauron-alias-Halbrand to tell him about them. (If I were writing this scenario, I would have had Celebrimbor come up with the alloy idea and Sauron come up with the need to use Valinorean metals for alloying.) Yes, my pre-series impression of this character (mostly founded on his crush on Galadriel in the Unfinished Tales and his loyalty to her brother Finrod in some other texts) was of a more dignified figure. But this guy is a perfectly valid interpretation: a charming, ditzy mad scientist type, ripe for manipulation by a darker and subtler personality.
Forging of the Three Rings: As presented here, the scenario requires Celebrimbor to be a bit slow off the mark (see alloy comments above) and Galadriel to once again be a reckless dumba** who thinks she knows best. I do like the evolution from the One Crown of Power concept (rejected by Gil-Galad, but obviously intended by Sauron for himself) to the Two Rings of Power (Sauron’s idea for breeding rivalry among the Elves), to the Three Rings of Power (Galadriel’s idea for a balance of power). I think I like the physical designs for the rings better than their Peter Jackson analogues.
The Seven and the Nine Rings of Power: Unclear where they fit in here; in Tolkien’s works they were apparently early prototypes for the Three Rings. They were made with some input from Sauron, and Sauron after seizing them from the Elves gave the Nine to his mortal vassals (who we know as the Nazgul) and six of the Seven to Dwarf-lords, with the first of the Seven to leave Elvish possession being possibly a gift directly from the Elves to one of the Durins ruling Khazad-dum. Given the popularity of the Durin IV-Elrond bromance, I assume this last plot point will re-emerge in Season 2 with those two as the main players.
The One Ring of Power: Pfft. Who cares about the boring evil maguffin? Its master is on the loose, causing trouble, Mount Doom – the forge where it will be created – has made a dramatic entrance. It’ll get made when it gets made.
